Check a building permit

Pick the jurisdiction, enter the permit number, and see what the authority currently publishes for that record.

New Orleans permit numbers are two digits of the year, a hyphen, five digits, a hyphen and a short discipline code — 26-24480-PLMB for plumbing, 26-24474-RENO for a renovation. Older permits may use the retired 04ELC-04886 form.

We read City of New Orleans Department of Safety & Permits's published record when you press this. No account needed.

What this checker does

We read the authority's own record
Each lookup goes to the permitting authority's published data — the same record their portal shows — and never to a copy we scraped weeks ago.
You see what that source actually publishes
Status, plan reviews, inspections, fees and conditions appear only where the authority publishes them. Where a source is silent, we say so rather than showing an empty section.
PermitChime is not the authoritative record
The issuing authority is, and every result links straight back to it. We tell you when we read the record and how often that source republishes.
